Why We Exist

My name is Taylor, and I am:

A founder.
A guide.
An HBCU grad.
A daughter of the Midwest and the Great Migration.
A voice and advocate for outdoor access.
A community builder.
A storyteller.
A creator and curator.

Even with all those titles, I am still someone who loves nature.

I carried this vision for years before Peace in the Wild became real in 2022. My love for nature started in childhood, exploring my grandmother’s gardens, attending an environmental school, and spending summers at camp, often as the only Black girl.

I dreamed of a space where Black people across the diaspora could step away from daily routines, find joy, and connect outdoors, not as a luxury or chore, but as a birthright.

That dream became Peace in the Wild, a movement that blends access to nature, community, skill-building, and representation of Black people in the outdoors. Through camping, hiking, surfing, kayaking, and more, it creates a pocket of peace in a wild world.

The phrase “in the wild” has two meanings for me. One is the outdoors, the rivers, woods, stars, and spaces where we gather. The other is the wildness of everyday life, unpredictable, chaotic, and beautiful. Peace in the Wild is a reminder that peace is possible in both.
